چکیده
INTRODUCTION Electronic controls systems have been used in commercial aviation for more than 40 years. With the introduction of the Concorde, the use of electronic systems (with mechanical backups) to manipulate the hydraulic controls used to fly by wire started the revolution on flight control. Digital systems were first used in the Airbus 310 where digital computers controlled flight control surfaces. European experience in Fly-by-Wire (FBW) application is now some 30 years old. With the entry into service of the A320, a new standard of FBW was defined in the flight control law and system integration areas. The United States was lagging in these achievements. The Boeing Company, embarked in an unprecedented journey to built a totally FBW controlled aircraft and completely design and integrated by computer. The Boeing 777 is the first commercial aircraft manufactured by Boeing which employees a FBW Primary Flight Control System. Not only this aircraft created great challenges in the technological arena but in the managerial area as well. The policy of open door or all the problems will be shared represented a challenge. The fact that this aircraft was completely design and integrated by computer created some challenges in the Systems Engineering as well. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the flight control characteristics and constraints for the Boeing 777 FBW aircraft.

Design Considerations in Boeing 777 Fly-By-Wire Computers
The new technologies in flight control avionics systems selected for the Boeing 777 airplane program consist of the following: Fly-By-Wire (FBW), ARINC 629 Data Bus, and Deferred Maintenance. The FBW must meet extremely high levels of functional integrity and availability. The heart of the FBW concept is the use of triple redundancy for all hardware resources: computing system, airplane electri...
متن کاملOptimal nonlinear control of flight faults in manned aircrafts in the presence of fault and failure of control actuato
Control actuators' faults are among the major reasons to lose aircraft control while flights. The plane dynamics is severely dependent upon faults and errors in flight control systems and if the reformed control order is not issued by the fault tolerant controller there would be unpleasant outcomes such as inconsistency and the reduction of system performance and some dreadful aerial accide...
متن کاملThe Dangers of Failure Masking in Fault-Tolerant Software: Aspects of a Recent In-Flight Upset Event
On 1 August 2005, a Boeing Company 777-200 aircraft, operating on an international passenger flight from Australia to Malaysia, was involved in a significant upset event while flying on autopilot. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s investigation into the event discovered that “an anomaly existed in the component software hierarchy that allowed inputs from a known faulty accelerometer to b...
متن کاملRecent results in robust adaptive flight control systems
Adaptive control has been increasingly used in flight control of late, with notable technology transitions to autonomous flight platforms such as Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), X–36 Tailless Fighter Agility Research Aircraft, NASA Generic Transport Model (GTM), and Boeing Phantom Ray. Given the need to make these flight systems autonomous, the spotlight, more than ever, is firmly on adapt...
متن کاملA Tutorial on Concepts and Measures of Manufacturing Processes
In a large-scale production system such as building a Boeing 777 airplane, there are more than ten thousand jobs. The interdependence structure among jobs and some jobs’ delay’s influence on the other jobs in different manufacturing areas are critical information to understand the status of their area. Relationship among groups of jobs may help us find the root cause of problems, to estimate re...
